Data sharing and web services

Career Companion builds on public data published by U.S. federal agencies. This page says which sources those are, what we do and do not do with them, and what you should keep in mind when you read a figure on one of our pages. It applies to everyone, whether or not you have an account.

Where the data comes from

Professional certifications come from the CareerOneStop Certification Finder, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration and operated by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. Our copy was downloaded July 2026; CareerOneStop updates the source biannually.

Occupation definitions, skills and job zones come from O*NET, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor. Occupation changes on our moves pages are derived from the U.S. Census Bureau and Bureau of Labor Statistics Current Population Survey. Pay figures are derived from the BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics and other public filings. Each page states its own source and the date of the data it shows.

What we do with it

• We reproduce names, acronyms and organizations exactly as the source publishes them. We do not edit the text of a record, and we do not add information into a record.
• Where we order a list, we say whose ordering it is. Our certification lists use CareerOneStop's own display order for its badges — in demand first, then NCCA- and ANAB-accredited, then the rest.
• We do not publish records a source marks as confidential or withdrawn.
• We do not use this data for direct marketing, and we do not sell it.

What it does not mean

Nothing on our pages implies that CareerOneStop, the U.S. Department of Labor, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, or any other source endorses, approves or recommends Career Companion. Listing a certification is not a recommendation to pursue it, and our pages are not professional, legal or financial advice.

Availability and accuracy

Public data changes, and a source can correct or withdraw a record at any time. We refresh our copies against the source and remove records that are withdrawn. If you believe something on one of these pages is wrong, tell us at support@careercompanion.com and we will check it against the source.

Free and open

The reference pages under Resources are free and require no account, no sign-up and no email address, and they will stay that way for as long as we publish this data.
